Book Review: Secrets of Millionaire Investor by Adam Khoo

Book review on secrets of millionaire investors by Adam Khoo

Secrets of Self- Made Investor by Adam Khoo is the sequel to the book Secrets of Self- Made Millionaire by Adam Khoo, which is the first book I’ll recommend for personal finance.

In this article, I’ll be referencing these books very often. Their titles are long, and almost similar. To make easier to read, I’ll do these denotations:

  • Secrets of Self -Made Millionaire as SMM Book
  • Secrets of Millionaire Investor as Investor Book

If SMM Book is the first personal finance book I’ll recommend to get started, then Investor book would be the second book to read.

If you are based in Singapore, like me, you can find this book in our libraries. Unfortunately, only the physical books are available. You do need to make a trip there to get them.

This book basically focuses on investing in stocks through:

  • buying indexes
  • value investing
  • momentum investing
  • options trading

Buying indexes and value investing are also covered in the SMM book . If you are going to read both books (SMM and Investor books), then I suggest skipping the chapters from SMM book (Chapters 15-19, under section VI Building Your Million- Dollar Net Worth), and read this book instead, since the part on investing in stocks is more detailed in this book, in fact an elaboration of those chapters in the SMM book.

Again, this book is easy to understand, comes in steps (Step 1, step 2, etc.). If you are someone who likes the various steps, then this should be the one to read. Many of the steps are similar to what other books recommend, maybe just written or phrased differently. So, if you have read this book, you can skip those sections in other books.

This book was published in 2007. With time, some things have changed. For example, investors have many choices of brokers, and online brokers like MooMoo, Tiger, etc., where you can literally start investing buying small number of shares from many different parts of the world, with low brokerage fees.

I recommend this book if you want to get started on investing. I like the steps the book gives on how to do something. A good starting point, but modify it as you move on.

I made notes for the value investing part. You can find them here.
